Intensive Therapy Program Information

Our Intensive Therapy Programs are personalized to meet the unique needs and goals of each child. Depending on your child’s individual treatment plan, services may include a combination of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. Each program is customized in terms of duration, intensity, treatment approach, and therapeutic tools. Most intensive sessions are scheduled for 2–3 weeks, 5 days per week.

Intensive therapy is recognized for helping many children make meaningful progress in a shorter period of time. Through frequent, focused intervention, children have the opportunity to build strength, improve endurance, and develop new skills more efficiently than with traditional therapy alone. While every child progresses differently, research supports that consistent, repetitive practice is an effective way to promote motor learning and functional gains.

Daily home exercise programs remain an important part of a child’s overall progress. However, participating in therapist-guided sessions each day allows for individualized instruction, ongoing adjustments, and consistent practice to help maximize outcomes.

Intensive therapy is not the right fit for every child. Our experienced team will work closely with your family to determine whether an intensive program is appropriate based on your child’s needs and goals.

After completing an intensive session, families are encouraged to continue with their recommended traditional therapy schedule and home exercise program to help maintain and build upon the progress achieved. Your child’s therapy team will also provide recommendations regarding future intensive sessions. In many cases, 3–4 intensive sessions per year are recommended, depending on the child’s strength, growth, and developmental needs. Clinical experience has shown that three-week intensive programs often provide the greatest benefit.
